The Flor Ayuda Foundation offers support to under-privileged children in Guatemala, a developing country in Central America.
Since the start in 1996 we have realized, supported by many individuals, companies, schools and other organizations, many projects in the fields of education, nutrition and health care.

The donations we receive go straight to the projects in Guatemala, providing a 98% yield. It is because of the support of many volunteers that we have achieved this great result!
The Flor Ayuda Foundation now exists for over 20 years.
We are committed to the children from the poorest families in Guatemala.
A FOUNDATION FROM THE NETHERLANDS FOR CHILDREN IN GUATEMALA
The Flor Ayuda Foundation has set a goal for helping the under-privileged children in the fields of health care, nutrition and education. We are mainly active in Colonia El Milagro and Sacoj (both situated in municipality of Mixco). This region mainly consists of a collection of slums. Services like sewerage, drinking water, health care and education are either non-existing or very deficient.
Colonia El Milagro and Sacoj are settlements in the suburbs of Guatemala City, where many parents, and specifically single mums, live in great poverty. The single mums are mostly widowed during the war. Children go begging or just hang around, ending up in youth gangs and criminality. Because of the lack of development of the parents, they do not know or realize the impact of education. Therefore they are hardly motivated to send their children to school. This furthers the risk of the children joining drugs-gangs and landing themselves in a criminal life.

THE START OF FLOR AYUDA
Dr Theo Bloem stayed in Guatemala for many months in 1994. During his work as a volunteer physician in the Clinica El Milagro, situated in the the Colonia El Milagro in the Mixco municipality (near Guatemala City), he was shocked by the enormous social and economic needs of the population.
After returning to the Netherlands he immediately founded the Flor Ayuda Foundation, together with like-minded people. Flor Ayuda means literally: a flower helps.
As a goal for the foundation we chose for helping the very poorest population of Guatemala. In the first years of its existence the help consisted mainly of medical organizational and material help for the Clinica El Milagro and some medical outposts in Indian villages. Also direct material help was given to poor families. We have also helped building waterpipes and houses for refugees and displaced persons.
COOPERATION IN GUATEMALA
In Guatemala The Flor Ayuda Foundation works closely with the Asociación Guatemalteca de Desarrollo Integral (AGDI), and Asociación Guatemalteca de Servicios Médicos (AGSM). These are groups of inhabitants who stand up for improving the living conditions in their own neighborhoods.
AGDI is an association for integral development (mainly by providing good education). AGSM’s main activity is the upkeeping of the clinic for the poor and vulnerable population of the neighborhoods.
The Flor Ayuda Foundation believes that every child deserves a good future. In the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, we provide children a good start in life and the opportunity to learn. Many children in Guatemala do not get that chance. The Flor Ayuda Foundation does what it takes for children to improve their lives and the future we all share.
